I decided to watch a clip from Last Week Tonight with John Oliver about sexual harassment in a workplace. He answered a lot of important questions about this topic and brought up countless cases of accusations, going as far as Anita Hill's case from the nineties. He mentioned the absurd culture of blaming women, brought up men's fears of false accusations and openly disagreed with them, saying you shouldn't be afraid to be alone with a female coworker as long as you don't do anything inapproprate.

allegation - "She made allegations of his inappropriate behaviour, but sadly she didn't have any proof."

compelled - "The employees were all compelled to attend this meeting sd it was important and the boss wanted everyone there."

policy - "The firm's policy didn't allow her to share the information with her friends."

Reflection #9

I consider myself a quite supportive person. Whenever my friend does something well, I always congratulate them and I'm happy for them. This doesn't change the fact that whenever my friend does something better than me, for example when they get a better grade on a test, I get jealous. I do not like being worse at something. I have realised that even though many people say jealousy is bad, I do not fully agree. I think jealousy is a natural thing, it is an emotion you often cannot control. It isn't a bad thing, what matters is how you handle it. It's ok to feel jealous as long as you don't act on it. Whenever I get jealous of my friend doing something better than me, I am happy for them despite feeling this way because I know that if it was the other way around, they would do the same for me. As long as you don't let it affect your actions, jealousy isn't harmful to you or the people around you.

Reflection #3

I’m not really a morning person and I hate getting out of bed early. Everyday when I wake up, I tell myself that I just have to make it through this week and then I will be able to enjoy my weekend. Today, that thought made me realise two things. Firstly, whenever we have to do something we really don’t want to do, we tend to set ourselves little goals that we can reach. Having something to look forward to helps us go through with what we have to do, even if it is something we really don’t enjoy. Secondly, I realised how repeating that is. When we wake up on Monday morning, we tell ourselves that we have to get through the week and then we’ll be able to enjoy our weekend. However, the weekend passes too quickly for our liking and we have to get through the weekdays again, which makes us stuck in some kind of never-ending loop of looking forward to things only for them to pass too quickly.

Can dogs smell cancer?

You might have already heard somewhere, from a friend, the news or the internet, that dogs can smell some diseases. You either believed it or you didn’t, but today I am telling you that it is indeed true. Many studies have shown that not only can dogs smell cancer, they can detect it at a very early stage. They are also able to identify the type of cancer the person has. The reason behind that is that, as we all know, a dog’s smell is a lot better than ours (more accurately, about 100 000 times better). According to studies, cancerous cells release a different smell than the healthy ones. The difference cannot be seen by humans but, due to their amplified sense of smell, it can be identified by dogs. For example, they can detect prostate cancer just by sniffing the patient’s urine.
