This time, I read an article about a black woman who was shot and killed by the police through a bedroom window. Atatiana Jefferson was only 28 years old and staying at the Fort Worth residence with her eight year old nephew when her neighbour had called the police about an open door, worried about an intruder in her house. When the police arrived, they saw Ms. Jefferson through the bedroom window, perceived her as a threat and opened fire. It is unknown if the victim was holding a weapon, but firearm posession is legal in Texas and from the released footage, we see the police most likely never identified themselves before shooting. The officer, a white man, is now on administrative leave, awaiting an investigation.

Today, I read an article about Simone Biles, an african-american woman who won her 18th and 19th gold medal on the same day at the World Championship in Germany. She became the world's most decorated gymnast with 25 career medals, beating the record of a Belarussian who had won 23 medals in the 1990s. At only 22 years old, she is also the first woman to attempt and land a "triple-twisting, double back maneuver". Even though I'm not a fan of gymnastics, I was very interested in reading more about Simone Biles. She is a very successful woman of colour at such a young age and it was very inspiring for me to learn about.
